Father Thomas Maikowski earned his PhD in education from St. Louis University. A retired reserve chaplain of the US Air Force and an admission liaison officer to the US Air Force Academy (USAFA), Father Thomas Maikowski has knowledge of the steps to gaining admission to the institution.
Admission to USAFA is on merit. To be eligible to apply, candidates should be between the ages of 17 and 22, US citizens, unmarried, and without dependents. Before starting the application process, applicants should find and consult an Admissions Liaison Officer. The officer will answer all their questions regarding the application process and what the USAFA program entails.
After consulting a liaison officer, applicants complete a pre-candidate questionnaire with personal details such as their name, date of birth, physical address, name of high school, class rank, and test scores. Official school transcripts will also be required to verify academic records. Then, applicants seek nomination into USAFA from recognized authorities such as the president of the United States, the vice president, members of congress, and authorized military bodies.
On being nominated, candidates are required to pass four tests: a fitness test that is based on six core exercises, including basketball throws, pull-ups, shuttle runs, push-ups, crunches, and one-mile run; an extra-curricular-activities assessment that records previous leadership roles; a written essay and personal interview; and finally, a Drug/Alcohol Abuse Statement and a Personal Data Record which assesses moral character.
Once requirements are completed, candidates must undergo a medical evaluation to certify mental and physical health before admission to USAFA is granted.
